What is the perfect business smartphone OS?

February 23, 2015 By Daniel Dob Leave a Comment

A few years ago, choosing a smartphone for business purposes is a straightforward process. You simply go for a BlackBerry. Today, however, iOS and Android are the two leading platforms to look into. Which is the best for business users? That is what we are going to find out in this article.

iOS

IOS is Apple’s take on mobile operating systems. It is a very fluid, easy to use OS that anyone will enjoy using. IOS also offers a more consistent experience in general. For business users, however, there are a few important things that make iOS a wise choice:

  • Apple’s iTunes Store has more high quality apps for business users. The price of these apps are not always on the affordable side, but you will be able to find a good app to use regardless of what you are trying to achieve.
  • IOS devices offer consistent user experience. You can switch between an iPhone and an iPad without having to adjust your usage pattern or get used to a new user interface.
  • Since iOS 8, you can now take advantage of features such as Handoff to switch between devices seamlessly. Paired with an equally capable Mac OS X device, you can complete a wide variety of tasks seamlessly.

Apple has been catering to business users for years. Administrative functions, business-specific apps and even virtualizations are now part of the company’s product line-ups. It is also much easier to control the overall user experience across all iOS devices from a centralized corporate server.

Android

Android, on the other hand, is Google’s take on mobile operating systems. It offers something that iOS devices are yet to provide: immense flexibility. Although Android is highly customizable and user experience may vary from device to device, getting familiar with the interfaces is not as difficult as it seems.

Android recently add a more comprehensive user management and experience control to its Android devices. If you are also using Google Apps for Business, you have a huge selection of tools for keeping your entire employees in check. Reporting, document editing, managing apps and adding new features to employees’ phones can be done seamlessly.

There are also a number of advantages offered by Android devices, including:

  • Better control over security. Despite the fact that there are many malware targeting Android devices out there, system administrators can actually limit the kind of apps users can install and prevent infection effectively. Antiviruses and system-wide scans are also possible with the new tools now being made available.
  • You also have a much wider selection of apps to choose from. In terms of quantity, Google Play Store hosts more apps than the iTunes Store. This means system administrators can cherry-pick apps that will meet the needs of their users.
  • Android is much more budget-friendly. Android devices are generally affordable, whilst the apps and supporting software are available at great rates.

There are also a couple of other operating systems which can directly link you to smartphones produced by other companies, and while these are not as popular as Android and iOS, it would be wise to also take a look at Windows Mobile and the OS created by Nokia, as these two pieces of software have had some success in the past, thus making them worth it for those who often find themselves doing business.

So, which system should you go for? The answer depends on which of the advantages you can benefit from the most. Simply review the facts above and find the perfect business smartphone to use. Have you found your perfect business smartphone? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.
