How to Use Two Whatsapp apps in a Dual SIM Phone

May 22, 2014 By Nwosu Desmond 6 Comments

Some Android phones are dual SIM capable, meaning you can use two SIM cards on them. It is common for someone who uses a dual SIM Android phone to want to use two Whatsapp apps on his phone. Whatsapp by default only supports one app on a phone but today I want to share with you how you can use two Whatsapp apps in a Dual SIM phone.

There are two ways you can use two Whatsapp apps in a dual SIM phone, one method involves you rooting your Android phone and the other does not. In this article I will cover how you can use two Whatsapp apps in a dual SIM phone whether it is rooted or not.

How to Use Two Whatsapp apps in a Dual SIM Phone

Install Two Whatsapp apps on a rooted Dual SIM phone

To use two Whatsapp apps on a rooted dual SIM phone, you will need to download and install SwitchMe.

SwitchMe is an Android app that will allow you to create user accounts on your dual SIM phone just as you would do on your PC. Each user account has its own system settings, apps and data.

How to Use Two Whatsapp apps in a Dual SIM PhoneDownload SwitchMe from Play Store.

Install the SwitchMe app on your rooted Dual SIM Android phone and launch the application.

Create a profile and give it any name you like let’s say Account 1 for example. This is your primary account, all your current settings, apps and data are stored in this account. So if you already have a Whatsapp application install on your phone, it will be available in this account.

Create a second profile and name is Account 2, this is your secondary account where you can save new apps, settings and data.

Switch to your secondary account (Account 2) and download Whatsapp from the Play Store and install on this account.

Verify the Whatsapp just as you would normally do with your normal account using your second number.

This process is quite simple, any time you want to use any of the Whatsapp applications, simply switch to the account where it is installed.

Install Two Whatsapp apps on a non-rooted Dual SIM phone

This second method of installing two Whatsapp apps in a Dual SIM phone does not require you to root your Android phone. Am assuming you already have the first Whatsapp app installed on your device.

First perform a backup of your Whatsapp messages

Clear the Whatsapp Data from Settings > Applications > Manage Applications tap on Whatsapp and tap the “Clear Data‘ button.

Launch a file Explorer and go to your SDcard and rename the current Whatsapp folder to OGWhatsapp. Rename /sdcard/WhatsApp folder to /sdcard/OGWhatsApp.

Download and install OGWhatsapp application on your non-rooted dual SIM Android phone.

On the OG version verify your old number, and in official version verify your new number.

Now you have two Whatsapp apps on your non-rooted Dual SIM Android phone.

    Hi Nwosu.

Although you can have two different WhatsApp accounts on same device with dual sim mobile through some third party application as you have discussed in the post, still I would recommend to use WhatsApp with one account only.

As there are many reasons for this consideration-

    1. Having multiple accounts shows some ingenuity. Although you can use dual sim mobile for getting different advantages from different carrier providers. Still, I would prefer WhatsApp on single account only.

    2. Further using third party apps, their might be some security issues too. As, you never knew whether the third party is also having access to your WhatsApp chats, may be they can read your incoming and outgoing messages too.

    3. These third party apps might make your phone vulnerable too. I prefer to use only trusted and verified apps only, as there are plenty of apps available in the app store. And I would say, some of them are spammers who might steal your information by getting access to your phone.

Anyways, its good you have explored some new apps. Thanks for sharing it here on Kingged.com.

    Hi Nwosu,

Thanks for this wonderful tips. I never knew you can use separate watsapp on a dual sim phone. You make the tutorial simple and straight forward.

I think i will be giving the first option a try cos my android is rooted, but one needs to be very careful, especially novice.

I love the disclaimer message you add to this article post. Nice one :)

Kindly keep up the good writing.

    Interesting,

Why must we have two accounts though? I couldn’t even get to handle my other social media platforms,

This actually seems cool, it’s like having a cheat or a bug in a game, Lol. :)

I did not know you could actually do such things, two WhatsApp for a dual SIM Android phone, are there any consequences? There might be so, we should always be mindful.

    Anyway! Great post,

    Have a good day ahead!

    Best,
    Ann07
