Tablet and Laptop comparisons – Netmediablog

November 8, 2012 By Sonia Jackson 5 Comments

In this article you will find a whole host of reasons why a laptop is a great device to have and why a Tablet device is a great device to have. Ideally you would own both. The facts in this article will not help you choose between getting a Tablet or a Laptop, but will help you to see why they are both great devices.

Tablet and Laptop comparisons

The first half of the article deals with the laptop and the second half deals with Tablets. The list is in no particular order and many of the points made have been pitted as Laptop against Tablet, or Tablet against Laptop. Nevertheless, they are both fine devices that you should own if you get the chance. Here are the tablet and laptop comparisons;

Laptop:

You can take a laptop anywhere:

You are able to put a laptop in a bag and take it (and its charger) with you anywhere on your person. You do not need to box it up or figure out a storage solution for it.

You can do more on a Laptop than you can on a Tablet:

In some cases you can do as much on a laptop as you can on a PC. You can certainly do more complex and difficult tasks on a laptop because it has the memory, RAM and hard drive to cope with it.

A laptop has more processing power:

This means that a user can play games on it that require higher processing power. It also means that the laptop can handle bigger and bulkier programs.

A laptop has a bigger screen:

They also have a better screen resolution. This means that things such as photo and video editing can be done on a laptop. It also means that people can give presentations using their laptop screen.

The choice of software for a laptop is a lot less limited:

There are so many sorts of software that can be put onto a laptop that the scope seems limitless. Tablets have a range of Apps, but are restricted to them.

A laptop has better graphics:

A computer game played upon a laptop will have far better graphics than one played upon a Tablet.

A laptop is harder to steal:

It is with the person and by their side. It is a large object, and therefore more noticeable if it is stolen.

A laptop can be customized to a higher degree:

A laptop can be configured and customized as far as a user likes. A tablet is very restricted in this area, as it would take far more work and legal permissions to configure a tablet device to the way a person wants it.

A laptop need not be upgraded as much:

A person should expect to upgrade a Tablet every couple of years, but a laptop does not need to be upgraded until a few years have passed.

Tablet

You can keep a Tablet on you at all times:

It is just about portable enough so that it is inconvenient to carry around on your person all day, but not as inconvenient as carrying a laptop bag around all day. Carrying a tablet is not as convenient however as carrying around a phone or blackberry.

A Tablet is cheaper than a laptop:

A good Tablet device is cheaper than a good laptop.

A Tablet’s battery life lasts longer than a laptop:

It has less internal processes and needs less energy to function, therefore you can expect between eight and ten hours of usable battery life. Many laptops would struggle to stay on for so long, especially if they were used continuously.

A Tablet is easier to switch on and off:

They can be put on standby so that they can be picked up and used, and put back on standby in very quick time. They can be picked up and used quickly.

A Tablet does not need charging up as often as a laptop:

With moderate use a tablet device can be used for a few days before it needs to charge up.

A tablet device is less likely to be hacked:

A laptop has a higher chance of being hacked than a Tablet device. The chance of each getting a virus is about equal.

I hope this article has given you some comparisons between laptops and tablets and why both are great devices. Your choice of any depends on your need and reasons to want any. As much as some people will prefer laptops others may prefer  tablets, but people like me of course can still choose the two for different reasons.

I’ve never really seen the appeal in laptops. I’ve used one a few times and I find them really clumsy. My wife keeps urging me to get one but I can’t see the point. Give me a good old PC anytime.
