How to stream videos to Android tablet

January 20, 2014 By Nwosu Desmond 12 Comments

Would you like to stream the videos on your PC to your Android tablet or phone? Android like iOS does not support a huge array of audio and video codecs but one can always find brilliant media players like MoboPlayer and MX Player that can play a huge array of video and audio formats because they often require a codec pack to be installed.

To stream videos from your PC to Android device you only need a video player like MX Player or MoboPlayer and ES File Explorer apps installed on your Android device. Both apps are free though. Now let me explain to you how you can easily stream videos to an Android device.

Steps to stream videos to Android Tablet:

Step 1: Create an Wi-Fi network on your PC and join to the network with your Android device. I use Connectify to create a Wi-Fi network on my PC. Turn on your Android Wi-Fi, Scan for network and join your PC Wi-Fi network you just created.

Step 2: Launch the ES File Explorer on your Android device and select the “LAN” tab, you will see a blank screen  as shown below.

Step 3: Click on the “New” button and select “Scan” and after a few seconds you will see your PC listed on the tab. Select your PC by tapping on the icon, you may be required to authenticate the login so login to your PC account using your PC username and password just like you do when you logon to your PC after a reboot.

Step 4: When you have logged in, you will see some folders listed, click on “Users” and select “User” or any other profile if you have multiple profiles on your PC. Now you can be able to see all the folders and files on your PC.

Step 5: Tap on the folder you stored your movies on to open the folder and tap on any movie of your choice to start streaming it. Depending on the file type, you may be given more than one media player option if you have multiple players installed on your device.

Now the video will start playing, you can adjust the aspect ratio to fit your screen if need be. Now I hope you can stream to Android device from your PC without having problems, now you can enjoy watching your favorite movies on your Android tablets or mobile devices.

You can also use this method to access pictures and other multimedia files on your PC. You can even extend it to your TV using a HDMI connector, simply plug the HDMI connector onto your TV and have the video streamed t your TV.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, if you have problems at any of the steps above, use the comment form to ask me any questions and if you also have a contribution also drop it here using the comment form. Remember to subscribe to my blog.

ES Explorer really does pretty well when it comes to streaming. On the safer hand, I always goes up with VLC & Videomix.

Very interesting! I would sure want to try out the steps to see how well the result would be. The tutorial is clear except that one needs to be careful with the connectivity hardware that should be installed.

Thanks Sunday for your awesome contribution to the discussion. Connectify is an easy to use software that can create access points for you to share your wifi, you can even protect your network with a password.

Streaming your videos to Android tablet is a great way of saving space on your tablet while you can still enjoy the movies stored on your PC.
