Nokia Lumia 925 vs Samsung Galaxy S4

September 4, 2013 By Ajay Chauhan 19 Comments

The availability of choice requires a comparison between the two competing objects. The latest turf belongs to Nokia Lumia 925 vs Samsung Galaxy S4. Both are loaded with features and specs, very similar sometimes. However, there are some big differences also. Before you compare and shop, consider the brand fascination factor also. You may have impeccable brand faith on Nokia, or on the Samsung.

When it is a matter of brand identity, buyers often do not even bother comparing. To say, you may choose the Lumia 925 without even comparing the specs. The same goes for the Galaxy S4, if you just love Samsung! However, it makes good sense to avoid being a blind follower. Brands are not absolute! They have their ups and downs. Comparing helps you in making an informed decision.

Nokia Lumia 925 vs Samsung Galaxy S4

Comparing Nokia Lumia 925 vs Samsung Galaxy S4

Display gets preference

The obvious parameter you start comparing is the appearance. Both have capacitive multi touch features on the display screen front. In fact, there is no competition with the screen type. The 16M color screens of both phones have AMOLED screens. However, the default screen resolution of the Samsung device is richer than the Nokia phone. The Galaxy S4 has a 5 inch screen, set at 1080 x 1920 pixels. Nokia’s screen is at 4.5 inches and it has a default resolution of 768 x 1280 pixels. There are some more appearance aspects in comparing Nokia Lumia 925 vs Samsung Galaxy S4.

Comparing appearance aspects

The phones feel similar weight-wise also, with a mere 9 g difference between them. The Galaxy S4 weighs 130 g, while the Nokia device weighs 139 g. The dimensions are also more or less similar, so there is not much comparison there too. The Nokia dimensions are 129 x 70.59 x 8.5 mm. The dimensions of the other phone are 136.6 x 69.8 x 7.9 mm. Samsung is slightly better than the Nokia in being about 7% slimmer. The Galaxy screen is also around 11% bigger.

Parameters of comparison

However, as far as the general feeling goes, the two devices are somewhat similar. They are not lighter or heavier, and much bigger or smaller than each other. You must check out the other parameters of comparison.  Choosing between the Nokia Lumia 925 and the Samsung Galaxy S4 requires confirming the camera power. Also, you have to decide on the operating system aspect. Then, you need to see the memory factor and the connectivity power. In addition, factors like the battery tenacity and processing power are also necessary aspects.

Why Samsung scores more

However, in the race of special features, the Samsung phone is a clear winner. It consists of loads of additional features that you cannot find in Lumia. The only unique feature in the scorecard of Nokia is the availability of the FM radio, absent in Samsung. Leaving out the radio, Galaxy S4 consists of a series of unique features. Consider the processing power for example. Nokia has a Dual Core CPU, while Samsung boasts of a Quad Core CPU. Having a more powerful CPU invariably makes Galaxy more efficient than the Lumia.

Processor and camera

Here are the other unique Samsung aspects comparing Nokia Lumia 925 over the Samsung Galaxy S4. Apart from the Quad Core processor, the Galaxy also has a stronger RAM. It has a 2 GB RAM while the Lumia has a 1 GB RAM. The combination of higher RAM power and processing ability further adds to Samsung’s credit. Even camera wise, Samsung is a clear winner. This GSM phone has a camera extendable to 13 MP. On the other hand, Nokia’s camera stretches only up to 8 MP. Both have autofocus features and video recording abilities. Video recording is at 1080p @ 30 fps.  Cameras have different features like Geo Tagging and touch to focus. Both phones have front cameras also.

Memory and HDMI support

The Nokia phone does not support a memory card slot, so you cannot extend its memory either. Another clear aspect where the Galaxy scores over Lumia is the HDMI capacity. Nokia does not support HDMI. Samsung’s HDMI support allows the phone to stream videos and photos to your LCD TV using a standard HDMI cable. All these aspects undoubtedly favor Samsung in comparing between these.  Yes, price wise Samsung is slightly more expensive than the other. However, the host of unique competitive features offsets the little extra cost.

Comparing the connectivity

Connectivity wise, there are not much differences again. Both phones have GPRS and EDGE connectivity. Both phones have 3G connectivity. The download speeds in both are 42.2 Mbps. Upload speeds are also same, at 5.76 Mbps. Both phones have WiFi connectivity. You can find the WiFi hotspot feature in both phones. Bluetooth comparison, however, gives more mileage to Samsung. It has a v4.0 Bluetooth feature compared to Nokia’s v3.0 Bluetooth. Both phones also have USB connectivity. The specifications are slightly different though. Lumia has a microUSB v2.0 connectivity. Galaxy has a microUSB-MHL v2.0 connectivity.

Checking out the OS

The OS is another important comparison aspect and the Nokia Lumia 925 has the windows 8 OS, while Galaxy runs on Android v4.2.2. This is a major aspect of making the decision. If you prefer windows 8, well, you want the Lumia then. If Android’s your favorite, don’t look further than the Samsung. Nokia Lumia 925 has a 1.5 GHz CPU with dual core processor. Galaxy has a 1.6 GHz CPU. The Nokia device only supports HTML and the Galaxy supports both HTML and Flash.

Battery

Finally, always check out the battery comparison in Nokia Lumia 925 vs Samsung Galaxy S4. Both have Li-ion batteries, but Samsung has more capacity. It has a 2600 mAH battery, providing enhanced performance compared to 2000 mAH of Nokia. Both phones have the extra features like a gyroscope, compass, and accelerometer. Nokia Lumia only supports MMS and instant messaging.

The Galaxy S4 supports voice commands and a YouTube player besides MMS and instant messaging. Both phones have Push Mail email system. They support a variety of musical formats like the MP3, WMA, WAV and eAAC+. However, Galaxy has greater video support. It can play DivX  and XviD videos, which is not possible in Nokia.

Conclusion:

After all these, we guess you have made the right decision between these phones. The Lumia 925 being a Windows phone and Galaxy S4 being a Android, both have their pros and cons during this comparison. We undoubtedly will go for the S4 for its amazing power and experience that you will get even I am a guys who will click a lot of pictures.

I’m a fan of Samsung and Sony technologies. They provide quality hardware. I’ll purchase S4 when I get enough money.
Samsung won this time. Good luck Nokia for your next model.

Based on the images above Nwosu it does look like the Samsung creates the richer overall experience. Getting down to the basics people simply want to be awed – and awe others – with their apps. Great review.

hi nwosu. here in our country (philippines) galaxy is more popular than lumia. so if i rely on popularity, i would go for galaxy even though i am loyal nokia user since 2001 (advent of 3310). but if i rely on pricing, i will choose whichever is cheaper. i am using nokia c3 since i have no budget yet for buying a samsung galaxy

, i just heard that Microsoft bought Nokia. perhaps, they would implement drastic changes to compete against samsung and apple …let’s wait and see…

If we want speed of our device then Nokia Lumia is best. Because Samsung mobiles has less processing speed. Otherwise both are good. Admin which is your favorite mobile device?

I’m a fond of Nokia from my childhood days….Actually I still have emotional connection with this company….I still remembered that my first ever phone was a Nokia product….Coming back to the comparison between this two, if you’d ask me then I’ll definitely go for S4…it’s much better…but I am hoping that Nokia (with the assistance of Microsoft) will come up good in the future….lots of great lumia phones are on the cards…am desperately waiting for those….

Ups… sorry to say this but there is no comparison between Nokia Lumia 925 vs Samsung Galaxy S4 ! Nokia Lumia 925 is window phone & Samsung Galaxy S4 is Android phone. Samsung Galaxy S4 has ultimate features those make perfect cell phone more than Nokia Lumia 925.

I don’t see a matching competition except Nokia begins to build Android phones. I used to be a Nokia fan until i met Samsung.

I also hope that Microsoft’s acquisition of Nokia will bring something new to the company to save them from extinction because now Samsung has captured the smartphone market.

Samsung Galaxy S4 is actually faster than Nokia Lumia 925 because it has 8 cores though 4 cores can actually be engaged at once but when the device is stressed the other 4 can be accessed. it also has a 2gb RAM which puts its speed way beyond that of Lumia and its apps look also better, Samsung is definitely my choice.

    I agree with you Christina

Guys, just think about the fact that thousands of applications are available for S4 where Nokia Lumia 925 has nothing. I always prefer an android phone than the others and the reason is apps.
Anyway, thank you for the article.

    Hi,

I personally think S4 would be domination this year’s market even after the launch of Lumia 1020, most awaited smartphone due to it’s superior features and Android OS.
