Nigerian Android Developers can now publish paid apps on Play Store

June 30, 2014 By Nwosu Desmond 4 Comments

Oh it’s a gooooooaaaaaal! Nigeria has just scored again…..!

Yes Nigeria has just scored again, you read it right. Are you wondering if I am talking about the Nigeria vs France match already? No, this is not really about the Fifa World Cup 2014 going on in Brazil.

Just few weeks after Paypal accepted Nigeria as one of the countries to use its services after years of excluding Nigerians, another big one has landed but this time for Nigerian Android developers.

Nigerian Android Developers can now publish paid apps on Play StoreGoogle in a recent announcement has said that Nigerian Android developers among 8 other countries can now publish paid apps on the Play Store. The list of countries recently accepted to publish paid apps on Play Store include Belarus (US Dollars), Chile (Chilean Pesos), Colombia (Colombian Pesos), Costa Rica (Colón), Egypt (Egyptian Pound), Kazakhstan (US Dollars), Kuwait (US Dollars),   Nigeria (US Dollars), United Arab Emirates (Dirham).

Nigerian Android Developers can now publish paid apps on Play Store

This has increased the number of countries that can publish paid Android apps on Google Play Store to 54. To be clear, customers in these countries could already buy apps and make in-app purchases on Android apps on Google Play Store, and their developers could publish free apps but could not charge for their apps and in-app purchases and collect revenue from Google Play Merchant account.

What this means is that Nigerian Android developers can now publish paid apps or develop apps with in-app purchase on Play Store.

Nigerian Android developers can now sign up for a merchant account on Play Store with $25 and publish paid apps and generate revenue from it.

But since the account is in dollars, a developer will require a USD domiciliary bank account to collect their generated revenue.

This is indeed great news to Nigerian Android developers as they can now make a living with their hard work. I hope to see great paid apps on Play Store by Nigerian developers.

What do you think of this development? Let me hear what you have to say in the comments.

Am definitely looking forward to the Nigeria – France match now….Let’s cheer the Eagles to victory!!
