Keyword strategies shared in this post is vital and can help you achieve your goals online so read it carefully and please practice it. So much have been written about Keyword strategies, sometimes I wonder which is the best strategy that will put my blog on the first page of search engines. In the course of blogging over the months, I have learnt a lot about SEO and one of the things I have learnt is that SEO is king. I took quite a lot of time to study Keyword strategies and today I want to share with you all I have learnt and hope it will help you as it helped me.
Keyword Strategies:
There are some simple keyword strategies you can follow to drive traffic to your blog and Google Keyword Tool is a very useful tool in this regards. There are a lot of premium keyword tools but for most newbie that can’t afford to buy such paid tools, you can make do with Google keyword Tools. Every day, people type in more than one word while running searches on search engines, so while looking for keywords to use in your posts, look for two or three word phrases. For example if you are writing about “horses” you will notice that there is a high competition for such keyword. Yes, it may be tempting to choose keywords that gets 100k hits a month, but then the competition will always be high and will require more hard work to rank for it. But if you choose “dressage horses” for example as your keyword, you will notice that though it may have 1350 searches a month, the competition may not be as much as that for horses and you can easily rank for dressage horses than horses.
Target one keyword per post, and a few variation of that keyword to sprinkle throughout. You don’t have to go for keywords with no competition because you want to remain number one, this may not be worth your time in the long run.
Use Keywords in post title:
Search engines returns results for queries found on domain name, post title and then in content. You have to use these simple keyword strategies within your posts and that can make search engines fall in love with your blog. You have to ensure your keyword is in the URL of your post. Change your blog’s permalink structure to “Custom structure” within your blog settings. For example if you follow my blog very well you will notice that my post URLs are in this format http://(domain name)/(post title) suggesting that my permalink custom structure is /%postname%/ . So using your keyword in your post title can help the search engines easily fish it out and rank you high.
Another secret of using keywords in the post title is making it appear in the beginning of the post title. For example if you wrote a post on “How to buy recharge cards online in Nigeria” and your post’s keyword is “Buy recharge cards online in Nigeria”, search engines will favor a post with “Buy recharge cards online in Nigeria” before “How to buy recharge cards online in Nigeria”. Try also to use your keyword in your first sentence and at least once in each paragraph. Spamming your keywords everywhere will get you penalized by search engines. You should ensure your keyword density is within the range of 1 and 2.5%.
Use keywords on Post Subheadings:
If you notice my consistency in using subheadings in my blog posts, then you will realize I have been using this secret for a long time. Using subheadings in blog posts is a keyword strategy most bloggers ignore and are heavily punished for it even without knowing. Make sure you use at least 3 subheadings in your blog posts. For each of your subheadings you can use the h1, h2 and h3 tags. Depending on your theme, some blog themes will automatically use h1 for your post title, so you can then use h2, h3 and even h4 as your post’s subheadings.
Indicate your keyword within your post:
This is another keyword strategy most bloggers ignore. Indicate your keyword within your posts. Underline it once, italicize it once and bold it one time. This can help search engines pick up your post easily as they place emphasis on styled texts.
Use alt tag in Images:
Use your keyword in the alt tag of at least one or more images used in your blog post. Your blog post will pop out on image searches using the alt keyword attached to it when such keyword queries are searched on search engines.
Meta Description:
Ensure to use your keyword in your post meta description as this could help highlight the content of your post in a search result.
Use keyword strategy plugins:
Though I use WordPress SEO by Yoast in my blog, I have heard so much about All In One SEO Pack, these are free plugins that allow you to put a title, description and keywords into every post.
I hope you find my keyword strategies useful and easy to apply. Practice these keyword strategies today and see if there won’t be difference in your search engine ranking and traffic to your blog as well. Your posts will begin to rank higher in search engines and your blog will become a success.
