Is Android the future of Mobile Phone Technology?

March 3, 2013 By Nwosu Desmond 6 Comments

All roads lead to Android these days, I often wondered what the mobile phone technology would still be without Android, we would still be using Symbian Smartphones, maybe Blackberry wouldn’t have bothered to upgrade to Z10 and Apple iOS would still dominate as it did for a very long time. The emergent of the Android OS into the mobile phone technology has seen multiple handset makers like LG, Samsung, Nokia, Motorola, Panasonic, Sony and many more jump ship into this new innovation and we the consumers are not left out.

We have seen the 5 major mobile platforms Symbian (Nokia), Windows Mobile, Blackberry (RIM), iPhone (iOS) and now Android compete for domination within the last decade or so with Blackberry (RIM) and iPhone (iOS) leading the chase for a larger part of the period. But that has taken a different turn lately as Android OS has proven to be the mobile OS of today and the foreseeable future even.

Is Android the future of Mobile Phone Technology?

Is Android the future of Mobile Phone Technology?

Blackberry (RIM), Nokia (Symbian), iPhone (iOS) had a good run, I will always give them credit for their innovations that paved the way to today’s mobile technology. Microsoft Windows phones were a failure, I don’t know much about them and I don’t know anyone who has one or is planning on getting one so I won’t comment much about them.

Android OS has changed the game, perhaps this article is a biased one because I am an Android user, so take all of this with a pinch of salt. Google has done much with the introduction of the Android OS into the mobile phone technology and have thus become a major player in the mobile phone technology and development and will greatly dictate the direction of this mobile phone services for the next few decades.

Android has successfully challenged the almighty Apple and their range of products, the open nature of the Android OS is the main factor for its success, now phone manufacturers won’t have to build apps for their devices from scratch anymore. Once new hardware features becomes available, Android will quickly build drivers into its kernel to support it and this has encouraged many manufacturers to join the Android club.

There is almost an Android version of every iPhone app today and this has encouraged users a lot. The days when only the affluent can use Smartphones (iPhones) are gone with Android producing low price Smartphones, who wouldn’t want to use one? Yes you can say iPhone and Blackberry made mobile phones smart but I can say Android made them smarter.

Android has a brighter future in terms of development, usage, business, revenue and even app development as a result of its open source nature, anyone can develop apps on Android without any other cost for licensing and development and this saves money for both the manufactures and consumers. Android provides variety in the mobile phone world; anyone can build his own custom Android app. The ease of customizing the Android OS will remain its main success secret for a very long time, I don’t see iOS making its OS open source any time soon.

With so much to say about Android, I have come to conclude that the future of mobile phone technology lies with Android as we will continue to see its dominance in this sector with time. I can’t say what Blackberry and Apple have in mind but I wouldn’t put it that either of these companies will just wake up from nowhere and blow Android away easily. I just don’t see that happening, at least not any time soon….

Unbutu GUI has made it unpopular, so for them to rival Android they have to come up with something that will really compete with Android.

Android is really taking over the mobile phone technology and even as more updates are rolled out more developers are also rolling out great features that will even drive the demand for Android further.
