How to transfer contacts, music, video and photos using NFC in AndroidSmartphones are getting even smarter with the introduction of Near Field Communication. Now it is possible to transfer contacts, music, video and photo files between Android devices by mere touching the device together.

Near Field Communication popularly known as NFC which has been introduced into smartphones simply allows a two-way communication between any two NFC enabled devices to transfer files by just bringing the devices into very close proximity or just touching each other.

Android devices like the Goggle Nexus (Android Beam), Samsung Galaxy S III, Samsung Galaxy S4 and the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (S-Beam) already have this feature built into them. NFC makes it very easy to transfer files faster and easier without the hassles of pairing Bluetooth devices before sharing files. With an NFC connection, the Bluetooth pairing, connection and disabling before and after file sharing is taken care of.

How to transfer Contacts using NFC

First to transfer contacts from an Android phone to another, you will have to enable the NFC on your devices. To enable NFC on your Android phone, navigate to Settings > Wireless & networks and mark the NFC checkbox.

Then ensure both Android devices are NFC enabled. Navigate to the contact you want to share and tap on it. Then bring the two NFC enabled phones closer and watch as they detect each other and once they both vibrates you will know the contact has been shared.

Then separate the two phones immediately after their vibration to disconnect the NFC connection. Then you can check your contact on the receiving device to see the shared contact has been saved on the contact list.

How to transfer Music using NFC

To transfer music between two NFC enabled devices is pretty much as as similar as the one above. Simply ensure both devices are NFC enabled but uncheck the My tag checkbox under Tags > My tag.

Then open your music library and select the music you want to transfer via NFC, tap the track and bring the other NFC enabled phone very close to your phone.

When the phones connect, the two phones will vibrate and the data transfer will begin. When the transfer is completed, the music file will begin to play immediately on the receiving phone. At the same time, the file is saved in the Music application.

Then separate the devices immediately to prevent repeated connection attempts that could interfere with the data transfer.

How to transfer Photos/Video using NFC

To transfer photos or videos between two NFC enabled devices is pretty much as the one above. Simply ensure both devices are NFC enabled but uncheck the My tag checkbox under Tags > My tag.

Then open your gallery and select the video or photo you want to transfer via NFC, tap the video or photo and bring the other NFC enabled phone very close to your phone.

When the phones connect, the two phones will vibrate and the data transfer will begin. When the transfer is completed, the photo or video will display on the screen of the receiving phone. At the same time, it is saved in the Gallery application.

Then separate the devices immediately to prevent repeated connection attempts that could interfere with the data transfer.

    Hello Nwosu,

This is quite a great technology and I really appreciate reading it here. I’ll be watching out for the feature in subsequent smart phones I buy.

Do have a great day ahead.
