How to transfer large files using browser-based file sharing tools

July 14, 2013 By Nwosu Desmond 8 Comments

How to transfer large files online easily between two computers either close or far from each other without copying it with external hard disk or memory sticks are always challenging. If you have ever been in a situation where you have to send large files to someone in another part of the world and you know that attaching on an email or even uploading to a cloud server are not options due to their storage limitation, then you will understand the necessity of this article. Today I want to show you how to transfer large files online easily.

Browser-to-browser file sharing is a great way of transferring large files over the internet without having to install any programs, no waiting to upload to a cloud server and have the person wait to download them. It’s just an instant transfer process, as you are sending the person is receiving at the same time and at the same rate your PC is sending out. And the best thing is that most browser-based file sharing are free. You don’t have to wait to upload and download and they don’t often have file size limits.

In one of my previously published articles titled “justbeamit: Send large files easily”, I already introduced one of such browser-to-browser file sharing site called ‘JustBeamIt’.  In that article I showed you how to transfer large files online using Justbeamit but today I want to introduce you to other Justbeamit alternatives. In that article I also explained how this file transfer is done. You can check it out first.

MilesOverMiles: MilesOverMiles is a great browser-based file sharing site that allows you to send large files over the internet easily.

MilesOverMiles sends your files in real-time to the recipient. Your file is encrypted and sent to only the user you give your secret and unique URL. You can even protect your download with a password. Simply click on the ‘Browse’ button, locate the file you want to share on your computer and select it, then a unique URL will be generated for you, copy it and send it to the recipient either by instant messaging or email. Once he enters it on a browser your file will begin to be transferred to him instantly.

xFiles: xFiles is yet another p2p file exchange site that allows you instant file transfer directly without having to upload to a server. No registration is required; no file size limit, no security risk or bandwidth dependency.

Just select the file you want to transfer and a unique URL will be generated for you, send it to whomever you want to transfer the file to and once he enters it on a browser and click the claim button, the file will begin to download on their PC.

PipeBytes: PipeBytes simply solves your question “how to transfer large files online”. PipeBytes instantly transfers your files to anybody. You don’t need to install any software, no registration is needed, no file size limit, all you need is your web browser.

Just like the other two discussed above, browse and select the file you want to transfer and start uploading, you will be prompted with a unique code, copy the code and send it to whomever you want to transfer the file to and once the recipient enters the code on a browser, the transfer will begin.

I hope you can now be able to transfer large files to anyone in any part of the world in real time using these tools listed in this article. No software is needed, no registrations. But you have to also know that your browser will require to have flash installed on it as these sites require flash plugin to work. Another thing you require is an uninterrupted internet connection as the process may cancel if there is a disconnection.

    Hello Nwosu,

I don’t really use any file sharing tools to transfer files. I simply put them on dropbox or mediafire to upload and finally share the download link URL. However, this really is a good post buddy. I may give a try to xFiles as it is p2p file exchange site.

All 3 look to be solid solutions Nwosu. I have not used any but after reading your review I know where to look for large file sharing options.

    Thanks for sharing!
