In this tutorial today I will teach you how to resume downloads on Internet Download Manager IDM without starting from the beginning. Have you ever been in a situation where you lost your download due to interruption and when you tried to resume the download your internet download manager IDM requests to restart the download from the beginning. This is always a frustrating situation, once I lost download at 99.9% and when I tried to resume and complete the remaining 0.01% of the download, my IDM now requested to restart the download from beginning.
If you have been in the situation above you will understand my predicament at that point. So what do you do to resume your interrupted downloads without restarting the download from the beginning? Now let’s see how we can resume downloads without restarting the downloads with IDM.

How to resume downloads on IDM:
First we have to understand the cause of such incidents; some sites use temporary links that cannot be requested twice or temporary links that expires once the session is completed. So when your download gets interrupted the link dies and you can’t resume your download from same link. So what Internet download manager does is to look for the new link and ask you to restart your download from the beginning but I will teach you a simple way to obtain the new link and resume your download without restarting your download from beginning.

Once you receive the warning to restart your interrupted download from beginning, click the ‘Cancel’ button. Then right click on the file you were downloading that got interrupted and select the ‘Refresh download address’ option.
A dialog box which says “IDM will open a web page in your browser where it captures this download. Please start the download of the same file from your browser again, and IDM will try to capture a new address or new session data to resume this download”, then click ok and wait for your IDM to try and capture new address or session data for the file to resume the download.
Another smaller dialog box with “Stop waiting” button will appear while a tab opens on your browser to locate the file’s new address.
Once a new link has been found, IDM will immediately resume your download.
Now your download will resume to completion. I hope with this tutorial you can never restart another download again, it is easier to obtain a new address and resume your download. sir, i cant resume a file downloaded by en.savefrom.net when i refresh the download address IDM opens only the website (en.savefrom.net) it doesn’t give a new link to resume the file. WHAT TO DO, PLEASE REPLY………………
Please follow the guide on the post and you should be able to resume your downloads.
This is crap and doesn’t work. When it opens the page in the browser it’s always just blank and doesn’t load any new address. Then the box “IDM is waiting for the new address….” just sits there and nothing happens.
Here’s how to do it properly:
1) Go back to the download page yourself
2) Generate a new link for the file
3) Right click on your broken download and go to “properties”
4) Paste your newly generated link in the box titled “Address” and hit OK
5) Right click on the download and click resume
9 times out of 10 this works for me.
You should probably know that there are different types of links while some are static some are dynamic, some links changes after every download and if IDM cannot find the new link from the old link then you can probably do it manually with your method, so you can not say the method described in this tutorial does not work, i have used it countless number of times.

OPen the download dialogue in your Google Chrome browser, right click on the download and copy the new download link and IDM will be able to recognize it and resume the download.
