How to Promote your Blog Posts

June 25, 2013 By Nwosu Desmond 29 Comments

Immediately after hitting the ‘publish’ button I start to promote my published articles. So today I want to share with you those methods I use to promote my blog posts. To gain more readerships you need to promote your blog post the moment you publish it because you may never have the time to do it again. The more visitors/subscribers you have, the bigger your blog grows and there is a chance you will even earn bigger so you need to take this post seriously.

How to promote your blog posts:

Social Media shares: One of the methods I use to promote a blog post immediately after publication is the social media shares. If you look at my blog, you will notice a floating vertical social share bar for WordPress called Flare, I use it to share my posts on the social networks. This includes liking the post on Facebook, Tweeting it, sharing on Google+ with the +1 button, sharing on LinkedIn, Stumble the post, sharing on Pinterest and Reddit.

How to Promote your Blog Posts

Since Google has stated that social media activity is important to search engine ranking, I figured sharing my posts on the social media networks like Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, LinkedIn and Google+ will help generate not just traffic from such sites but also link juice which will help my post rank. Apart from that sharing a post on social media will also help it gain social media backlinks.

Bookmarking the post: After the social media shares, I bookmark my posts on some awesome bookmarking sites like Digg, Google Bookmarks, StumbleUpon, Diigo, BizSugar, Blokube, Inbound.org etc. Bookmarking your posts is very important, social media have revolutionized the way information is shared these days. There are so many bookmarking sites you can easily find today take advantage of them and share your posts on them. Just do not spam so your site will not be flagged as a spammy link.

Content Curation: This is another important way to promote your blog posts immediately after publishing them. If you are a follower of my blog, you will know how important I have always sounded about content Curation. I immediately curate my content on Scoop.it, Storify, BagTheWeb, Locker, +Pocket, Chime in, Rebelmouse etc.

Curating your content will help it gain easy exposure and backlinks as well. I mostly use Scoop.it more than the others. Search for topics related to the topic you just published and suggest your article to as many as you can find, if it is accepted, you will end up driving massive traffic from such sources.

Automated Method: I also use some automation tools like IFTTT to share my posts to both social media networks and some bookmarking sites I didn’t mention above. IFTTT is indeed an awesome tool and it makes it very easy for me to promote my newly published content even without doing a thing. The process is simple, once I publish an article, it trigger an event which then leads to an action. Find out more about this tool in an article I published previously titled ‘ Free Social Media Automation Methods’.

Schedule tweets with JustRetweet: The next thing to do is to visit JustRetweet and schedule tweet so people can tweet my latest posts on Twitter. This method makes it possible for many people to retweet RT my posts on Twitter and the result is amazing. Try it and see if you won’t say same.

Answers: When I have more time I head over to either Yahoo Answers, Replyz, Quora, Wiki answers, Wikia Answers etc and search for questions under the topic I just published and answered them referring to my article as the source of the solution.

Create PDF and Share: another way I use to promote blog post immediately is to create PDF version of that web page and share it on some free ebook stores like scribd.com, slideshare.net, issuu.com, docstoc.com, authorstream.com etc.

Others Things: Other things I do to promote a blog post include joining social media blogging communities in both Facebook, LinkedIn and Google+. You should also join sites like Triberr, my posts get shared by members.

I had never thought of the curation route Nwosu, smart stuff.

By sharing your content with eager audiences you can drive a steady flow of traffic to your blog, because people are always looking for top shelf content, to reference.

    Thanks for sharing!

I too do the same as what you do. I share the post on my blog’s fan page and tweet it. And I post the tweet on Just Retweet. But I don’t use content curation sites and social bookmarking sites. Will use those sites soon.
Thanks for sharing the methods you are using.

Great way to promote blog posts. I tried most of them like sharing on Social Media, Bookmarking. I have a question in mind. There is some automated tools which automatically post in multiple groups on social media. It saves time. Using those automated posting tools is good? or we should visit groups and then post there.

great post nwosu. thanks for sharing these valuable techniques. a word of caution though. be very careful in using yahoo answers. their so-called community is very strict in terms of placing your links as reference or sources of answers. i really dunno what they are that strict..

    Great share, Nwosu.
Not many are willing to share their strategies as elaborately as you have done here. And you do deserve an applause for that!!!
Well, I tried using scoop.it. But I guess I am not doing it the right way and, therefore, not getting the right response from it. I guess I will get back to you and seek your help with the content curation part.
