Also, the penguin update targeted low quality websites such as directories and spam social bookmarking websites to avoid link manipulation by many SEOs.

Having clean backlinks profile of a website is definitely what search engine really like nowadays. If you don’t want to lose the trust of your readers and search engines especially Google, don’t attempt to engage in any unethical behavior in off-page SEO such as:

Don’t build link too much – Don’t build massive backlinks to your website in a short period of time. It looks very unnatural if Google algorithm notices this unethical behavior. If you are building a thousand of links to a single page on your website within a week, would you say it’s natural? If your link building plan is to build hundreds of links for your targeted keyword to your website within a day would you say it’s natural? Certainly not! Quantity of links doesn’t matter in SEO if they are from unnatural linking activities. Quality matters! If you are continuously contributing high quality content for a website, that would be much better!

Don’t focus in keywords – Keywords don’t seem to be that valuable in SEO nowadays. Google put an end to keyword focused campaigns in SEO last 2012 when they rolled out their panda algorithm. Diversifying your keyword is the alternative of using keyword based anchor text since it is the best way to make the external links look natural in the eyes of readers and in search engines.

Frequently provide High Quality content – Content is king and there’s no doubt about it. Providing high quality content to your website in a regular basis is definitely imperative. Also, make sure that you don’t make your content easier to be copied or replicate by your competitors to give your website bad reputation. Informative content is what people love and if your website is continuously providing what they are looking for, your website will get too much attention from social media, news, reviews and more which search engine will not be able to ignore.

First of all, I appreciate your title. This is truly enticing.

And, I’d like to add one more point – Don’t outsource link building without properly knowing the seo consultant.

I’ve experienced a severe penalty just because I agreed him to build links on behalf of me. I lost money, lost page rank and got penalty. Though my posts are not de-indexed, but they are completely lost from search results, even for the keywords that used to be on top 5 positions. You really should be extra-cautious to outsource your SEO tasks.

If you are willing to go the clean, sensible link building route you can generate serious link juice. Simply create massive value as you stated and build links slowly and patiently to see optimal results. Thanks!

Link building is important for any business but google adamantly refuses black hat seo techniques. I guess that is the reason so many blogs are getting blacklisted. So in my opinion, before commenting we should also check whether the sites are going to be blacklisted or not.

I think the important thing is to write good content and become an authority in that niche. When people gain valuable information from reading that content, they are compelled to share it to friends or browse to other pages in the site. Make sure you have something more to share to your readers.
