Did the headline catch your attention? That’s quite the intention and more. Smartphones were made to make us smarter by providing us with rich features we couldn’t have ordinarily accessed except via a PC, a smartphone is more than a device to make or receive calls with.  Now you can send and receive email from your mobile phone, read and edit documents, access the internet on a fast speed, stream multimedia online, and play games on your mobile etc. Smartphones are indeed smart devices and today I intend to share with you how you can keep your smartphone safe.

So many people rely on their smartphones to do a lot of things and that is even the more reason why keeping a smartphone safe is imperative. I love my smartphone and wouldn’t want to lose it for any reason and I know there are so many people like me out there. So how do we stay smart with our smartphone so as not to lose it?

Report has shown that smartphones are easy targets by thieves, we now carry about personal data/documents around with our smartphones, with the introduction of mobile and internet banking, most people use their smartphones as a means of making payments when they buy anything. So losing your smartphone could put your sensitive data on the wrong hands, and this could be quite dangerous.  So let’s see how to be smart with our smartphone.

Tips to be smart with Smartphones:

Smart Tip 1: Use earpiece or Bluetooth while using your smartphone in public to avoid attracting unnecessary attentions.

Smart Tip 2: Lock your smartphone with a lock code or lock pattern.

Smart Tip 3: Install Anti-Theft apps on your smartphone so you could be notified when someone accesses it.

Smart Tip 4: Always log out of your online accounts and do not save your passwords on your mobile except if you are using a password safe app to do so.

Smart Tip 5: Install and use security apps like anti-virus apps on your smartphone that enable remote location and wiping.

Smart Tip 6: Backup and secure your data such as contacts, documents, photos etc.

Smart Tip 7: Install apps from only trusted users.

Smart Tip 8: Always update your smartphone

Smart Tip 9: Always put off Bluetooth when not in use

Smart Tip 10: Do not mess with your smartphone’s security settings.

    11. Install apps only from trusted vendors e.g Google Play, BlackBerry World, iTunes, Microsoft Marketplace e.t.c
    Installing apps outside these markets is still possible but you risk being a victim of malicious programs which might even compromise your antivirus.

    Thanks Coly for that addition…installing apps from third party vendors could be risky. Only trusted apps are listed on those stores you mentioned.

    Google Play or Market place, wont it deduct our money? Because i’m kind of fund of free things ;)

    Most apps are free on Google Store, Microsoft Store or even Apple Store.
