How I created custom URL for my Google Plus profile

July 1, 2012 By Nwosu Desmond 12 Comments

Google plus is the Google social network website, I love Google plus for a lot of reasons but one thing I don’t like it the long profile URL, as a blogger sometimes I want to write down the URL I will have to login to my Google Plus account to be able to copy it. I will say this is one place Facebook is better than Google plus. My Facebook profile URL is simply www.facebook.com/mavtrevor , even my Twitter profile URL is http://www.twitter.com/mavtrevor . But my Google Plus profile URL looks so complex I can’t possible easily remember it offhand. How am I supposed to remember https://plus.google.com/117674932352621401004 every time i have to write it somewhere? The default Google plus profile URL is made up the https://plus.coogle.com  and your profile ID 117674932352621401004. Facebook was once like this until they started issuing out usernames, why haven’t Google?

So I decided to look for a way to customize and shorten my Google Plus profile URL so I can easily remember it any time I need to. I made a little research and arrived at a solution. This method may not be from Google themselves but it surely worked for me. Until Google starts giving usernames for their profiles, I’ll be making use of this one. Let me introduce you to the websites I used to shorten and customize my Google Plus profile URL.

1. gplus.to

2. gplus.is

3. ongpl.us

These four sites look alike and have one thing in common. It doesn’t matter which of them you use, you will arrive at the same solution to your problem.

How I shortened and customized my Google Plus profile URL:

Visit your Google plus, click on login to your account if you already have one, else you may have to register one.
Click on your profile. Mine looked like https://plus.google.com/117674932352621401004/posts, Copy only the profile ID 117674932352621401004 portion of the URL.

Visit any of the sites listed above. There you will be asked to paste the copied profile ID and choose a desired username and submit. Your Custom URL will now be generated for you. Copy it and try it on a browser and see if it will not land you on your Google Plus profile? Depending on the site you used, your custom URL  may look different because of the site’s URL.

For example, if I decided to use “mavtrevor” as my username in all the sites, my custom URl will look like this;

gplus.to ==>  http://gplus.to/mavtrevor

gplus.is ==>  http://gplus.is/mavtrevor

ongpl.us ==> http://ongpl.us/mavtrevor

 This way, it’ll be easier for me to remember my Google Plus profile URL without having to login every time to copy it. If you find above post on “How I created custom URL for my Google Plus profile” interesting and useful. Please share this post with your friends using the share tools on the left hand side of the browser or the ones under this post. Lovely…Although there are other url shortners online but i think the ones you provided are beter for the Google plus because the urls themselves look like a Google sponsored url.
    Thanks for the share.

    Google is yet to start creating custom profile URL. Atleast mine still looks like this https://plus.google.com/117674932352621401004, so i wont be easy to remember it, creating a custom URL for my Google + account makes it easier and shorter to remember.

    Google really needs to come up with a vanity URL for its social network, maybe one of the reason why am still out.
