How to handle writer’s block as a blogger

June 25, 2012 By Nwosu Desmond Leave a Comment

Every writer knows that a time comes once in awhile when you cannot think of anything to write, in fact for the past two days I’ve not thought of anything interesting to write for my blog. The writer’s block you may have heard of it, it’s a serious situation for any serious blogger who cannot afford not to update his blog always. I can’t point out exactly what is affecting my thinking and writing skills but for whatever it is…this is time to handle it. But how do I start and what do I do?

How to tackle writer’s block as a blogger:

The power to conquer writer’s block is within you a popular writer once said….I’ve been thinking about this little sentence and have been wondering how is it within me when I can’t seem to do anything about my situation? Then it hit me why am I thinking of what to write when I can actually write about my situation and help others like me passing through same situation. So I decided to write and let’s see who’ll finally unblock itself. So let me share with you how I tackled it and now am writing again and the words/ideas are flowing once more and also how I intend to stay block free so I can always write the great contents you like to read here.

Just start writing on any idea: it’s high time you stopped waiting and started doing something about it, because if you don’t do anything about it you’ll still be waiting and yet you won’t still be able to do anything about it because this situation is more psychological than physical. So tackle it by initiating a start, don’t worry the words/ideas may be slow to come but keep on with your slow progress in no time, it’ll hit you and you will see the magic.

Read, read and read: When you have writer’s block, that’s the best time for you to read. Yes read from your favorite bloggers, read newspapers, read from anything readable. I know you may be wondering what’s the idea? I want to write and you are telling me to read. The idea is simple, as you are reading; just one word or phrase can unblock your blocked head. One word can initiate a new beginning and your writing spirit can creep out of that dark hole and you can write once again.

Sleep, rest, play, watch movies…etc: Simply get away from your desk, silence your mind, take a walk, rest, sleep if you can, eat, play, chat, listen to music, watch movies do anything you find fun in, that way you interaction with people or objects can inspire you into writing again.

Stop being a perfectionist: Don’t trash every article you managed to write under this situation because you feel it’s not perfect for your blog. Save them somewhere, someday you will realize you wrote one of your best blog posts while you were having writer’s block. Simply write no matter how imperfect you think that article is. Punch the words down one at a time and before you know it you are making sense, but my advice for you in this case will be to read through the post or even get someone to go through it for you before you publish it.

Plan ahead of time: Now this is my way of stay block-free forever. There is a time when the ideas are spamming your brain, take a notepad, write down all of them so that when you find yourself in a situation when you cannot think of anything to write, you simply refer to your already planned topics and develop them. That way you can never run out of ideas to write ever again.

By the time you follow all the above points, you will definitely be writing again. If you find above post on “ How to handle writer’s block as a blogger ” interesting and useful. Please share this post with your friends using the share tools on the left hand side of the browser or the ones under this post.
