The concept of productivity in the work place is always a sensitive topic as there are always different schools of thought, regardless of your view and approach to stimulate productivity, don’t forget the role cloud computing can play in boasting productivity. Today I want to discuss how cloud computing can improve productivity in 2013 and even beyond. Cloud computing even as an emerging technology has already played an integral role in boasting productivity. Our office communication, document sharing, information logging, data storage and collaborative efforts have been greatly improved by cloud computing, so I want to explore the ways cloud computing could improve productivity in 2013.
How can Cloud Computing improve productivity?
Every business owner and executive are looking for ways to increase their productivity, cloud computing has provided us with all the necessary tools to increased productivity. Imagine when it was not possible to access your organization’s files from anywhere in the world? Now cloud computing has taken every business that has moved to the cloud global. Zero downtime will definitely lead to increase in productivity.
But how exactly could productivity be increased by such services? How has it directly improved productivity?… and more. These are questions a lot of people are asking about how moving your business to the cloud can improve your company’s productivity and I will be discussing some of the essential ways cloud computing has actualized this.
Improving individual and collective employees productivity: The automated process of cloud computing has enhanced both individual and collective employees productivity. Once the initial cloud environment has been set up, maintenance and any other service runs on an already automated framework and helps eliminate unnecessary daily repetition of tasks and thus provide an extra time for other services.
Work from anywhere: Now employers don’t have to wait till the next day to finish up a task, they can simply logon to their saved documents in the cloud from the comfort of their homes and complete their tasks. Since tasks can be completed remotely, productivity will be enhanced from the extra contribution outside the office hours. I foresee a future where most people will not have to leave their homes to work.
Business expansion: Most companies have been limited to office space and even while they needed more hands they just can’t employ more people as they may not have enough space to work on, but with the option of working from anywhere provided by this cloud services, such organizations can now afford to employ people and have them work from anywhere in the world. I can’t wait to work for Microsoft someday right from my bedroom in Port Harcourt Nigeria. You can hire people to work remotely for you and I don’t need to remind you of the effect this will have on productivity of such company.
Controlled cost of production: it is an established fact that cloud services saves you cost, and as such the money saved can be re-invested in other sectors of the company to achieve even a greater goal. Cost of acquiring and maintaining office infrastructure, employees training, etc can be reduced by moving your business to the cloud. You do not have to purchase license for all your computers any more, you don’t have to spend money on maintenance anymore, you don’t have to spend money on acquiring new gadgets anymore, and you can use this saved money for reinvestment and this will definitely lead to increased productivity.
Improved communication = Increased productivity: Most employees become less productive from information overload. When an employee is swamped by massive daily information delivered to them, such employees productivity tends to reduce. And when such happens such employee is bound to make some bad business calls/decisions and this can greatly affect the individual productivity level of such employee, extrapolate this idea and imagine the collective effect it could have on a company as a whole. But cloud computing can save you from such, cloud applications provide collaboration tools that can help a company manage its information flow very effectively. When everyone is working together, few or nothing seem to be overlooked. And the overall effect of this is increased productivity.
I hope you will agree with me that cloud computing is definitely a necessary tool to improved productivity and why every business owner should implement it for improved productivity in 2013.
