Get a Gravatar – Stop being that Faceless Person on Comments

June 7, 2013 By Nwosu Desmond 36 Comments

Recently I was mailed by a visitor of my blog complaining that why doesn’t an image show for his face whenever he leaves a comment on my blog while that of others show? I simply explained to him that it is called Gravatar and how he could get his face to show on comments any time he makes a comment whether it’s on my blog or other blogs and why he should get one.

I know some of you may be wondering how others did it as well, so I intend to use this post to explain to you just like I explained to my friend above how you can get a Gravatar and stop being that “faceless” person on comments and the reasons why you should get one now. This brings us to ask the question below;

Gravatar

What is a Gravatar?

A Gravatar is simply a globally recognized Avatar, an image that follows you from site to site appearing beside your name when you leave comments or posts on a blog. Gravatar allows you to use your identity throughout the web.

How can I get a Gravatar?

To get a Gravatar simply visit Gravatar.com and sign up an account using your primary email address, upload a picture of yourself. Use a picture you will like to be shown alongside your comments whenever and wherever you leave a comment on the internet, a headshot will be preferable. You can even add multiple email addresses to one Gravatar account; I personally link up to 3 email addresses to my Gravatar account.

Note: Your Gravatar can only display properly only when you use same email address for comments.

Why do I need a Gravatar?

Gravatar stands for your identity on the web, and if you want to be seen as real then you need a Gravatar. A Gravatar serves as your identity on the web and must be taken seriously whether you are a newbie blogger, a brand or just a mere commenter on blogs, you definitely need your identity so as to be easily recognized and this can only be made possible by a Gravatar.

When people sees your Gravatar on comment section of different websites, they will easily identify you with your Gravatar and this helps you build your brand or even personal profile. It’s easier to identify our loyal readers with their Gravatars and you won’t want to remain that faceless person on comments always.

why do i need a Gravatar?

A Gravatar helps you attract curious visitors who likes your contributions on another site to check out your own site and this is traffic, simply put a Gravatar can help you drive traffic to your blog, and when people have recognized you as someone who adds quality contribution to an article via blog commenting, they will easily be drawn to check out what you have on your own site. So get your Gravatar today.

If you have any more questions concerning Gravatar or how to get a Gravatar or even why you need to get a Gravatar, don’t hesitate to ask using the comment form below. Show off your Gravatar image by leaving a comment below. You can also share this post with your friends who may be interested in getting a Gravatar today. Remember to subscribe to my RSS feed.

Very good topic you’ve selected. It is really too immature to comment without having a gravatar when its so convenient with one. Lets hope we’ll eliminate ‘faceless heads’ very soon.

Nice instructions and reasons to get a Gravatar enabled for placing comments, But as at this time i am visiting , you Gravatar seems missing, or is it just me?

    Hi Nwosu ,
Seriously, some times faceless people annoy me. I am okay with faceless visitors but I am not okay with faceless commentators. Uploading a gravatar also reduces the risk of your comment being trashed.

Important and useful information for anyone who actively comment on blogs.
But I can’t see your avatar in your bio. Is the issue is only with me?
Let the world be free from Faceless persons ;)

Being a person is one of the quickest ways to connect with other people.

You cannot overlook this simple idea but many people do, forgetting to use gravatars and missing the chance to make a stronger bond.

If I see someone at the store with a paper bag over their head, I think something is wrong.

Same deal online with people who never get a gravatar.

    Thanks for sharing!

Gravatar has emerged one of the best tool to fight against the comment and you said correctly accept only those posts which shows the picture of the person otherwise no need to accept as it is spam.

I think Tech guys should know and care about Gravatars more than any other type of person even.
