Even with new forms of entertainment available through thousands of web sites and popular portable devices, satisfaction that a good book provides can hardly be replaced. No wonder eBooks are becoming more and more popular especially now when new gadgets allow you to carry hundreds of books in your pocket. You can now have your personal library with all your favorite titles wherever you are. Finding a good app for reading books can sometimes be very hard since most of the people looking for one never used an eBook reader. Here are 5 of the best book reader apps that will help you download, decode and read all your favorite books as easy as possible.
Best book reader apps
Aldiko: This is probably the most popular book reader app for Android today. You can use it to browse and download thousands of classic and modern books, and it will help any passionate reader find a perfect title for himself. The app supports all major eBook types, and with the new version of the app you can import books from your PC.
The app is free and when you sign up to their web site you can create personalized catalogues, bookmark the titles you already downloaded and make your own search preferences that will help you browse books that are best suited for you. Also the app allows you to set up your reading preferences – from screen brightness, font type and size, margins and more.
Kindle: When it comes to reading apps available to all popular smartphone platforms, Kindle is definitely one of the best. It will make a reading experience on a smartphone or tablet almost as good as reading on Kindle eReader, which are considered to be the best reading devices to date.
The app automatically connects you to Amazon web store where you can find one of the biggest online collections of books to buy and download. On top of that the app will let you download and read all of the popular newspapers and magazines. When uploading book from your PC you have to convert it to either AZW or KF8 format in order to read it, and as with all popular book readers the app allows you to fully customize your reading preferences.
Kobo: Another reading app with great features and extremely well organized interface that will make your reading experience fun and easy. This is considered as one of the best alternatives to Kindle, since it allows you a wider range of bookstores to find your favorite books. The app is free and it’s available for PC, Mac, Blackberry and smartphones running iOS or Android.
The app has a great social networking feature that allows you to share and discuss your favorite books. With other features like adjusting font, memorizing the last page you read and night mode this is a great reading app you should definitely try.
Nook: This is an app presented by Barnes & Noble, with instant integration to their web store. It has great interface with easily accessible icons so it’s very easy to use, plus you get access to over a million different books. It allows you a lot of customization when it comes to the way your book is displayed, from font size and types, margins, night mode and more.
With so many books to choose the app makes it easy by letting you choose from different categories like Top sellers, Top LendMe books, books recommended by Barnes & Noble and more.
Must Read: Read PDF files in 3D Style with Soda PDF3D Reader
Overdrive: Last but not least is Overdrive, another great reading app with all of the features a great reader should have plus a feature that supports audio books which can be very helpful for a lot of users. Unlike some reader apps you are not limited to one bookstore, so you can browse a lot of different places to find a book. On the other hand, unlike readers we mentioned above this reader doesn’t have features like note taking, text highlighting or searching for a particular part of a book.
My GF loves her Nook!
Great app to have if you dig the traditional reading experience.
Thanks!
Nook and the other apps listed here are great if you love reading the old traditional way.
Thanks Nwosu for the information. I never thought Kindle is an app. Because it does not work in our country, I was in assumption that Kindle is just an e-reader of Amazon.
After reading your post I made a search for Kindle application in Google Play. Currently installing it. Let me see what I can make of it.
Is the KOBO app from Nigeria? Hahaa, Nwosu, I guess you know why I’m asking that?
I’m going to try that particular app instead. I just like the name.
I prefer Aldiko and Lektz reader to access my books in my Xperia phone. Both serve their purposes well in my device. Aldiko and Lektz are user-friendly readers which provides you different options to enhance your user experience. You can side-load/import both PDF and ePub format of books in Lektz reader which is advantage for it.
Thanks Suresh for your comment, do have a nice day.

Hi katrinderes,
Awesome list of book reader apps. Right now, I’m just using local mobile app which is favorite here in my country.
Mind sharing the name?
Hey Katrin,
Great list. However I noticed that you did not include iBook. That is the once I am using and I love it. To be honest I don’t think I would try these in a while but will definitely keep the list on my mind. Thanks for your hard work!
