4 Ways to Reduce the Noise on your Twitter Feed

May 26, 2014 By Priya 11 Comments

Open your eyes, call in your smart phone into your hands, open your twitter newsfeed and start scrolling through it. Is this how your mornings start? Well interestingly, you would find a lot of people staring at the twitter trends on their smart phone early on in the morning.

Recently a lot of tweetards, as the Twitter addicts are referred to, have been complaining about too much noise on the show. When you open your eyes to the Twitter newsfeed, you are practically bombarded with a lot of news especially ones that are totally irrelevant to you. Interestingly this has become a matter of concern to both consumer of the newsfeed and the players on the newsfeed. Big brands like Starbucks, and other big names in the world of brands and businesses have started feeling that less attention is being drawn to them. This is going to kill their business online, or so they feel.

Reduce the Noise on your Twitter Feed

A few online brands like Pepperfry, India Circus etc. have tried a new way out which allows them to use Twitter effectively. Here are some tips that they have generalized for most brands that are planning on using Twitter to base themselves.

Hashtag your Messages

Hashtags on Twitter are one of the best ways to reduce the impending noise on Twitter. By hash tagging the relevant content based on certain words and ongoing trends, you will be able to scream your voice out, and shut the other noises. This is basically how you use Twitter effectively for your brands. Make sure you hashtag relevant terms else you won’t be able to get through to your followers.

The hashtag #FF is growing quite popular and is commending quite a lot of followers. Look out for what’s trending while using this hashtag. A close watch on this hashtag will get your quite a bit followers and will get you to the top of the tweets. You can always talk relevant and attract friends of friends.

Un-follow

Well, you did follow some people because they tweeted you, but not necessary that you love all of them. Try to unfollow those who don’t make sense to you. Big brands make sure the following number is lesser than the followers’ number. Use this strategy.

Go Mute

Twitter’s popular mute button is an interesting way of resting the noise on your newsfeed. In case you think by unfollowing people you will be rude to them, you can just mute them on your newsfeed. You will not receive their tweets on your newsfeed. This is a button that most brands should fear. To tackle this, make sure your tweets are interesting and worth a follow.

List Building

Yes, Twitter allows you to build a whole list for your based on the category you choose to reside in. This is similar to groups or forums on other platforms. This would mean you have a follow list, a group that belongs to a certain category. Manage the list and you will see that you won’t miss out on the tweets at least not within the group.

Finally you should post a lot of content that is relevant to your brand. In case of shopping stores like shoppal, jabong, pepperfry, tweets should include a lot of images, should make the consumer want to buy, engage in their retail needs, and finally get the conversion. Social media noise should be consumed and the purpose should focus on providing to their needs.

Remember image based focus is always a good idea at getting more people on board. Happy Twitting !!!
