May 25, 2016 By Daniel Dob 1 Comment

At this moment in time, businesses from all around the world put their faith in their sales teams when it comes down to bringing in new customers, growing and surviving as a company. However, when the sales teams, which have professionals put into place fail to bring in customers, or to surpass slow periods, then something is definitely wrong.

In the following article, we have outlined five different reasons why your sales team may not be doing so well, and what can be done against that.sales-team

  1. The lack of people skills

While you may think that your sales team is made up of professionals, there is a slight possibility that one or more of the members lack people skills. This essential mistake most definitely stands behind the reason why not number of customers isn’t growing. To help counter this destructive lack of skill, it is best to pair up those who don’t score so well on the chart with people that have natural talents when it comes down to interacting with others. In return, this will surely bring better results after a period of time.

  1. Being technologically challenged

In today’s world, technology plays an essential role in all of life’s aspects. With this in mind, while sales ability definitely does not have to go hand in hand with a member’s tech skills and equipment, they do form a good match when put together. With this in mind, it is essential for business owners from all around the world to invest in machinery that can allow the sales team to do their job correctly, but also in specialized software. In return, you will be better able to keep track of the efforts being made, while also giving the sales team numerous other possibilities of promoting your business and bringing in new customers.

  1. Poor performance of the products being released

Leaving aside the fact that your sales team has nothing to do with product development, having poor products put out for the market may be the number one reason why your sales team isn’t doing too god of a job. With this in mind, whenever they get order cancellations or refunds, their morale and motivation takes an acute drop. Unfortunately, this isn’t their fault at all. This is why you, as a business owner should only strive to sell high quality products that can actually be put to good use and encourage customers to be purchased.

  1. Not having the proper approach when selling

While this is strongly related to the people skills your sales team members have, taking the wrong approach can definitely keep out a couple of good clients. When it comes down to selling a product, it is important to focus on what clients will gain from purchasing it, rather then what the product does, or what the company will gain from each unit sold on the market. Analysts have long stated that the best sellers are those who can be referred to as problem solvers. When pitching, it is important to see things from the perspective of the buyer, and try to understand the issues that he’s dealing with. In return, this will allow for a close-up between the sales team member and the client, thus leading to higher chances of closing a deal.

  1. Not having a proficient list of leads

Leads are essential for the success of any sales team, as they allow members to be in the know about who wants to buy something, or who just got access to a large amount of capital that now needs to be invested. While some businesses may assume that good sales team members find their own leads, this is not always the case. There are tools available that can help them gather high quality leads from various sources. These don’t only bring in a list of addresses and names, but also go ahead and verify each of the leads being mentioned and checking whether they fit a pre-set profile or not.

Based on everything that has been outlined so far, these were five of the main reasons why your sales team may be performing poorly. There are of course, many other possible choices, so be on the look-out, and understand that without the proper resources, a competent sales team can’t do that much.
