Why the iPhone 6 still suck

September 12, 2014 By Nwosu Desmond 2 Comments

In the past few days since the release of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, there have been lots of noises on the internet about the latest members of the iPhone family. While I will agree that Apple has this time lived up to its expectation, I feel it is playing catch up with Android still. I want to look at the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus through the eye of some Android flagship smartphones and tell you why the iPhone 6 still suck.

It is interesting to see that the iPhone has got a bigger screen than its predecessors. Apple has finally closed the display size gap.  Apart from the bigger screens, other notable features of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus include; NFC Payments, Notification actions, Widgets, 3rd-party keyboard, Typing suggestions, Cross-app communication, Cloud photo backup and battery stats etc.

But how do the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus stand in the league of Android flagship smartphones like Samsung Galaxy S5, Sony Xperia Z3, Samsung Note 4, LG G3, HTC One M8, Moto X, LG Nexus 5 and even Xiaomi Mi4?

Why the iPhone 6 still suck

iPhone now has big screen but yet poor resolution:

The iPhone 6 with its 4.7inches display, 1334×750 resolution and 326 PPI does not compete in the same display league as some Android flagship smartphones still. Samsung and other Android phone makers have proven that consumers really love and want big screen devices.

This is the era of 1080p resolution; Apple is still making devices with 1334×750 resolution. Most Android flagship smartphone have better resolutions. The Samsung Galaxy S5, Sony Zperia Z3 and HTC One M8 all have 1920×1080 resolutions; LG G3 and Samsung Note 4 are equipped with 2560×1440 resolutions.

The bigger screen is more of a leveling move against Android, there is nothing particularly new here in terms of overall smartphone size. The less-than-impressive 1334×750 resolution which brings 326 PPI does not add anything new to the iPhone display experience since it’s still same as iPhone 5S (1136×640 pixel at 326PPI). iPhone 6 still suck!

There are many Android flagship smartphones out there with better resolutions. So I won’t be wrong to say Apple iPhone is still tagging behind in this aspect.

iPhone Camera still 8MP:

The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus both have an improved camera of 8MP which can take regular video at 30 or 60 frames per second and capture slow motion video at 120 or 240 frames per second. Apple has introduced a new sensor and the Plus model even got OIS technology. This is a good improvement by Apple to yet again close up on a standard that has been achieved on Android smartphone years ago.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy S5 have 16MP rear camera while Sony can boast of 20.7MP in the Sony Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 compact. The new Moto X and LG G3 have a 13MP camera as well. No doubt Apple’s camera produces good quality photos as some may argue you don’t need to extra megapixels in camera except you want to blow up the photo on a billboard.

But unfortunately, the iPhone 6 is stuck on digital stabilization tech and will not be bringing anything new than most Android flagship smartphones. iPhone 6 still suck!

Seems iPhone needs more RAM:

The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus both has dual-core A8 (64bit) processor clocked at 1.4GHz and 1GB RAM. This is an improvement compared to the 1.3GHz A7 chip that powers the iPhone 5s.

Apple is known to optimize its OS to perform with minimal hardware power than engage in spec wars with Android phones.

But in truth, Apple could do more. Additional RAM would allow iOS to leave background tasks and tabs in Safari browser open for longer without a need to reload or refresh.

Though some may argue that additional RAM will require more battery life, but we have seen Android smartphones with good battery capacity.

Most of the Android flagship devices have a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor but the Sony Xperia Z3 and Samsung Note 4 have the most RAM at 3GB. iPhone 6 still suck!

iPhone still dies in water:

While some Android smartphones such as Samsung Galaxy S5, Sony Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 compact are water resistant, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus is still tagging behind in this technology. Imagine losing your iPhone just because it fell inside water.

iPhone used to be the pace setter in the mobile tech world, have they lost their magic wand with Steve Job’s death? iPhone fanboys, won’t you love to have this feature in your smartphone? iPhone 6 still suck!

iPhone still suck on file transfer

It’s a pity you still can’t use your iPhone 6 as a memory device to transfer files from one computer to another without the iTunes. While you can easily use your Android smartphone to transfer large files from one computer to another you can’t do same with iPhone 6if you do not have iTunes installed on both PCs.

What do you think of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus smartphones? Do you think consumers deserve more than Apple is serving? Let’s hear what you have to say about the iPhone 6 compared to Android flagship smartphones.

With all of Apple’s technological know-how I believe they should give us a better product. Many people are buying Apple products just for the name but not necessarily for the quality of the product. As you have outlined they are behind the curve on many aspects of smart phones. It goes to show that bigger is not always better. Thanks for your awesome article.

Too bad apple has fallen behind. Here is what kills me: people buy iPhone, only to install all Google apps. But with Google phone, those same Google apps work better. Plus on Google phone, you have Google Keep, which does not have an iOS app in June 2015.

Bottom line: if you are stuck in iOS, because you sunk half your life savings into Apple hardware, you can still benefit from Google services. Also, if you just want to play with a piece of new hardware, and are mesmerized with the apple logo, get an iPhone. But don’t blame me about having to use iTunes…that software sux worst of all.
