In this realm of new technologies, near field communication NFC is becoming a big thing as more and more companies are beginning to find uses & applications for it. NFC technology allows mobile devices to exchange data at close range.

Unlike Bluetooth, NFC does not need to program two devices to work together. NFC can easily establish connection be mere touch between two NFC-enabled devices. Over the years NFC technology has grown from developer’s roll-outs to mass market roll-outs as more and more people are beginning to develop applications based on this technology.

NFC can be applied to business to create and improve consumer experience. NFC presents new opportunities for companies and consumers and in this article I want to look at how NFC can change business.

How NFC can be applied to Business:

1. Advertising & Promotion

NFC can be applied to business in the area of advertising and promotion to improve outreach and sales. Promotional items equipped with NFC link to advertise a business will instantly connect customers to target site.

3. Digital Wallet:

As every society is working towards achieving a cashless society, Banks and Credit Card companies are deeply involved in developing NFC-based payment systems. Now you can use your smartphone as your digital or mobile wallet.

Credit Card companies are beginning to include an NFC chip into their cards to enable users’ wave their cards in front of an NFC-enabled POS terminal to make payments instead of having to swipe it. Businesses can integrate this payment method for easy and quick transactions.

4. Ticketing, Access Control & Payment:

With NFC-enabled smartphones you won’t need to print tickets. Simply wave your phone, enter your PIN and you will be able to walk into events, catch a plane and take a train. Businesses can save a lot of cost implementing this type of ticketing for those that have NFC-enabled devices.

5. Product Authentication:

Businesses can protect their products and brand by implementing NFC technology on their products to enable consumers easily check origin and authenticity of products. This will scare and expose fake products and increase sales for the business.

6. Smart Objects:

An NFC tag (infotags) often contains information like phone number and URL. This infotags can be used to embed useful information on products and when a user touches his NFC-enabled phone on it he will be furnished with all the necessary information about the product. You can use this method to integrate all the information a user may be interested in on products.

Just as the concept of NFC is growing everyday finding new areas of application I hope it finds more application in our everyday lives and improve the standard of living. NFC technology can improve your business in a lot of ways as explained in this article.

    Its amazing learning of what the Near Field Communication (NFC) technology can do. Indeed, it could help businesses in easy transactions and communication. However, the fear of security and stolen data should not be ruled out.

    Developers and companies using this technology should device ways to protect the sharing of private data which has been the bane of many similar technologies.

    Such data is always encrypted at one end and decrypted at the other. It is a secure type of connection so there is nothing to fear.
