Whatsapp is a cross-platform instant messaging app and one of the most popular around. Almost everyone I know these days use Whatsapp for instant messaging and chatting. You often find people pressing their phones even on the walk ways chatting away on Whatsapp. Whatsapp is really an awesome app to have as it makes it easy to keep in contact with lots of people, share information, pictures, videos and so much more.
But oftentimes people change smartphones, and one of the challenges they face is usually how to transfer their Whatsapp messages from their old smartphones to the new ones. Recently a friend was faced with how to transfer her Whatsapp messages from Blackberry to Android and this little challenge inspired me to write this article, to help others like her out there looking for how to transfer their entire Whatsapp messages and shared files such as images from Blackberry to Android.
In today’s article I want to teach you how you can transfer Whatsapp messages from Blackberry to Android.
While it may be easy for some people to simply let go of all the old messages in their old phone and start a new life on their new phone, this is not the case with this my friend. She wants to move every single message she has had with anyone to her new Android phone.
Luckily I found a way to transfer her Whatsapp messages from the Blackberry to HTC One XL seamlessly. After reading this guide, you can transfer your Whatsapp chats from Blackberry to any Android phone, you can even start off from where you left off in your Blackberry as if its same phone.
Here is how to transfer Whatsapp messages from Blackberry to Android easily.
- Backup your chat history on the Blackberry
First you need to backup your entire Whatsapp chat history on the Blackberry. To do this simply launch the Whatsapp application on the blackberry and navigate to the Settings, top on the “Chat Settings” and then tap the “Backup Chat History”.
Your entire Whatsapp chat history will be backed up on your Blackberry device. The Whatsapp chat history backup is usually stored in the Whatsapp/Databases folder. The file is usually saved as msgstore-year-month-day.db.crypt.
So if you backed up your Whatsapp chat history today being the 26th of September, 2014 the backup file name will be msgstore-2014-09-26.db.crypt. Copy this backup file to your computer.
- Restore backup on Android
Then install Whatsapp on your new Android smartphone from the Google Play Store. After the app installation, do not launch it yet.
Connect your Android device to the PC where you saved the backup file you copied from the Blackberry.
Navigate to your Whatsapp/Databases folder on the Android smartphone. Paste the backup file you copied from the Blackberry into the folder.
Then launch the Whatsapp app you installed earlier on the Android, you will be asked to enter a phone number for verification, enter same phone number you used on the Blackberry phone and you will get a notification that backup was found on your device.
Click on the “Restore” option to restore your entire Whatsapp chat history from the Blackberry to the Android.
What the restore is complete you will still be asked to enter a name and profile picture and you will see that your entire chat history has been transferred from your old Blackberry device to your new Android smartphone.
You can simply continue your chats from where you left off on the Blackberry as nothing is lost.
This is how I transferred the entire Whatsapp messages from Blackberry to HTC One XL for a friend without losing a thing. The guide is an easy to follow one, but if you have challenges you can use the comment section below to ask for help from me.
I will be very happy to help you in any way I could. I hope you find this article useful, remember to share with your friends. You don’t know who you may be helping today.
Thanks

Is there any software to make the backup of our whole data of mobile?
I have a BB Curve 9315 and it seems that it does not have an option for Settings >> “Chat Settings” >> “Backup Chat History” . I would appreciate if you can give an insight on how to transfer messages from this type of BB to an android phone.
Thank you.
Hi,
Can you use this procedure to transfer whatsapp history from Blackberry Q10 to an Android phone? I tried it but during restore, I got a message “Sorry, we were unable to restore any of your message history”.
My Andriod’s whatsapp back up conversation into .crypt8 file but Q10 back up into .crypt. Has this got anything to do with the history restoration failure.
Thanks,
Dennis
Hi Expert,
1. I tried several times from Q10 Black berry to HTS android but it failed.
It didnt show “message backup found screen”
2. It went straight to my profile picture with name.
3. I tried to uninstall and install back several times but was asked to try again in 24 hours time!!
4. I did transfer the back up files into my SD card hoping it can detect for restoring the messages, but failed.
5. I tried to paste the back up file in the folder of the HTC android once i have install whatsapp and run “agree and continue” icon.
What shall i do next?
Tried copying the backup Blackberry folder to my new Huawei device, and then launched WhatsApp, but does not work. Does not ask for restore option, goes straight to profile pic and does not restore history or contacts. Please advise.
i am trying to copy the Whatsapp message history from my Blackberry Q5 to Android Moto G4 Plus. i have reached till step 2 but i am not able to find folder Whatsapp/ databases in my new phone. what should i do next
Exactly the same issue as Dennis has posted! Please revert if there’s a solution to this. Will renaming the crypt part help?
