How to recover forgotten Windows password using Ophcrack LiveCD

February 15, 2012 By Nwosu Desmond 1 Comment

What is Ophcrack LiveCD?

The Ophcrack is a free Windows password recovery tool, it is quite fast and easy to use. This software works with Windows 7, Windows Vista and even Windows XP.  Ophcrack can recover almost all the passwords for any recent Windows OS. So i am going to keep this post simple and short.

How to use the Ophcrack LiveCD:
To get started with Ophcrack, you will need to download Ophcrack LiveCD from the Ophcrack website  , Click on Download and choose the version that best suits your OS, you will notice there is none for Windows 7, yes that is because the one for Vista will perfectly work for Windows 7. Download the appropriate ISO image File for your Operating System.  The file is almost 500MB, so you may need to be a little patient for your download to complete.

When you download has been completed, burn the Ophcrack ISO image to a CD or DVD, after burning the CD, boot to the CD by rebooting your PC with the disc in the drive. Ophcrack will locate the users on your Windows system and begin the password recovery. Don’t worry about what you will do as this is an automatic process. Then on a successful recovery, the passwords will be displayed on your screen, remember to write them down safely.

Next remove the Ophcrack LiveCD and reboot your PC, then login with the recovered passwords.

Features:
• Runs on Windows, Linux and Mac OS X (intel).
• Cracks LM and NTLM hashes.
• Free tables available for alphanumeric LM hashes.
• Loads hashes from local SAM, remote SAM.
• Loads hashes from encrypted SAM recovered from a Windows partition, Vista included.

NOTE: Your antivirus program may alert you of virus infection of the file, ignore it as the files are not harmful to your PC in any way. You should also Subscribe to NetMediaBlog Feeds by Email

I have tried Ophcrack but it still failed to recover my password. Eventually I removed my admin password using PCUnlocker. Thank you any way!
