How to deal with blogging burnout

September 15, 2014 By Nwosu Desmond 5 Comments

Every blogger deals with burnout at one point or the other. We’ve all been there, you haven’t published a post on your blog for days stretching into weeks, not because you don’t want to write but you sit down right in front of your computer staring at the screen for hours and you still can’t piece together two sentences.

I hate to tell you that you’ve got a deadly blogging sickness called “Blogging Burnout”. Part of the joy of blogging apart from making money from your effort is actually in writing and publishing great contents on a steady basis.

I find joy within when I hit the publish button knowing that my audience are going to love this one. But what happens when I can’t write for days or weeks? People keep coming back to check for new publication only to meet the last headlines.

It is quite frustrating when a blogger cannot carry out his duties. So I want to share with you some ways to deal with blogging burnout if you find yourself in such situation.

how to deal with blogging burnout

Ways of Dealing with Blogging Burnout:

  1. Evaluate your priorities:

What is most important to you? The success of your blog, or your good health? Either ways you stand to lose both when you burnout.

By clarifying your priorities, you prepare yourself to make difficult decisions that will see to the growth of your blog and your good health. You may notice that your blogging activities are becoming overwhelming and could lead to burnout.

Take a step back and prioritize those things that are most important and make the decision that will save you from burnout. If your work load is much, try and reduce them to avoid burnout

Put your time into good use by prioritizing your tasks, that way you will know what to do when to do than trying to do everything at the same time always.

3 Silliest Guest Blogging Mistakes

  1. Simplify your tasks:

There will always be something to do, a post to write, a comment to reply, links to build etc. Blogging is indeed a stressful job and can weigh one down easily if not watched keenly.

You don’t have to kill yourself just because you have to meet a publication schedule, when it is not flowing, leave it to be.

I remembered denying myself sleep countless number of nights just because I have to publish an article for my audience to read first thing the next morning. It was killing me, till I realized I could actually schedule articles days ahead of time so I can have ample time to do other things without the stress of meeting a publication deadline.

You don’t have to spend all your time in front of your computer screen just because you are a blogger. Most bloggers burnout even without realizing, and when you struggle, your blog struggles as well.

Stay healthy and fresh and ideas will be fresh in your mind as well. That way you can keep a healthy blogging life.

Not Getting Expected Results From Blogging?

  1. Learn when to say NO to work:

This is one thing every blogger must learn. Blogging is not a do-or-die affair and as such shouldn’t be everything. I need the income! True, everyone needs income, but how much and at what cost to the things you value most?

There should be time for work and other things. You don’t have to work and work all the time, else you’ll burnout. Learn to say today I won’t blog and use your time to do other things.

  1. Renew yourself:

Renew yourself to avoid blogging burnout. Hang out with your friends, go to the cinemas, watch movies, play music, play football….do anything apart from blogging. Do this from time to time and keep your mind sharp and exercised.

You will return to blogging sharper than you left flowing with new ideas. Keeping your mind fresh can be your secret weapon to producing quality articles always.

  1. Outsource some tasks:

If the tasks are much for you, to avoid burning out I will advise you to outsource some. Outsourcing some tasks will help reduce your workload and help you focus on the ones you have at hand and this can really bring out the best in you as a blogger.

This solution may add cost to your budget but it will definitely save you from blogging burnout. You don’t have to do it all by yourself, you can find good freelancers all over the internet.

Conclusion

Have you experienced blogging burnout ever? You may not even know you have burned out. But the next time you can’t carry your blogging tasks as easily as you used to, take a look at yourself and follow the steps shared in this article to refresh yourself once again for optimal performance.

These are some really good tips shared here. I’ve been experiencing a little bit of a burnout lately because I’ve been doing so much writing for my blog, doing various guest posts and writing my own Info Product, it’s hard to find the time sometimes.

I’ve been doing #3 for the last little while on weekends. I choose not to work because I know I need to have time to re-energize.

    Good tips here, Nwosu.
