If you are a regular reader of my blog posts you may have heard me mention about Google advanced operators once, today I am going to explain in details what Google advanced search operators mean and how you can use them to easily find anything you are looking for on the internet. I hope you can only use it for good. Google is the biggest search engine on the internet and can thus be used to find almost everything. But sometimes we spend countless number of hours searching for a single thing, today I am not only going to explain to you what Google advanced operators are all about but also how to use it to easily find anything you may be looking for on Google.
What is Google Advanced Operators:
So I will simply say that “Google advanced operators are special strings that can specifically query and return results matching exactly the submitted query”.
Google advanced operators:
Now let’s get started I will simply discuss the Google advanced operators under their specific headings.
- Site: The site advanced operator limits your search to only one website. So let’s say you are searching for “download music” from my blog – Netmediablog, all you need to do is go to Google.com www.google.com and type Site:Netmediablog.com download musicand Google will return all the links in my blog containing the words Download and music. You can use this method to search for any term from any particular website.
- Related: The related advanced operator is used to search for web pages or websites that are similar or related to the searched url.
- Filetype: The filetype advanced operator is used to find documents of a specified format. It could be .doc, .pdf, .ppt etc no matter the format, the filetype operator will return only results of that searched file format.
- Define: The define advanced operator is used to search for the dictionary definition of a term/word or phrase.
- Inurl: The inurl advanced operator is used to search for specific term in a URL. For example if I say cars inurl:Honda check all the returned search results the term Honda will be in the URL.
- Allinurl:allinurl advanced operator returns results with only the specific terms searched included in the URL. For example if we search allinurl:car quotes ,the result will only display pages containing the words car and quote in the URL.
- Intitle: The intitle advanced operator will return results containing the searched terms in the title of the page. For example we search for movies action intitle:Ben Affleck, The result is going to return only the web pages that contains the words movies and action that include Ben Affleck in the title of the page. This is a great way to specifically search for any movie.
- Allintitle: allintitle advanced operator returns result which must include the query words in the title of the page. For example if we search for allintitle:wordpress blogs the result will return only pages containing wordpress and blogs.
- Intext: Intext returns result that contains the search term anywhere in the text of that page. Example is Nwosu Desmond intext:make money, This will return only pages mentioning Nwosu Desmond where make money is included in the text of the page. Wow, am marveled at the number of results with my name talking about make money.
- Calculators: Google search can make calculations and let me show you the basic few.
a. Basic arithematic (+ – * /): You can make simple calculations on Google search using the Basic arithematic advanced operators. Example type in (200+600-250)/50and hit the enter key in Google and see what happens.
