Facebook replaces every member’s emails with their @facebook.com email

June 28, 2012 By Nwosu Desmond 4 Comments

Just two years ago Facebook rolled out its email services, though not many bothered to apply for it but today they are forcing every member of the biggest social network to use their @facebook.com email address. Just recently, Facebook quietly replaced everyone’s email addresses from other networks like Gmail, Yahoo, MSN etc  to their @facebook.com email address.

I remembered I listed my Gmail, Yahoo and even my Webmail email addresses on my profile, but now it’s been replaced with my @facebook.com email address only. Why has Facebook quietly replaced our email addresses with their @facebook.com email addresses?

Here is their explanation:

As we announced back in April, we’ve been updating addresses on Facebook to make them consistent across our site.

In addition to everyone receiving an address, we’re also rolling out a new setting that gives people the choice to decide which addresses they want to show on their timelines.

Ever since the launch of timeline, people have had the ability to control what posts they want to show or hide on their own timelines, and today we’re extending that to other information they post, starting with the Facebook address.

I simply think that Facebook is only trying to encourage its members/users to use the @facebook email address more because members have been slow to embracing the Facebook email address.

To Revert to the old email address on your profile earlier, simply visit your Timeline, under the “About” page, edit contact info and hide the Facebook email and highlight another email address to display.

Click save to save your choice after you have chosen the email address to display on your Facebook profile. Use the comment box below to tell me what you think of this move by Facebook.

I think that facebooks idea of replacing every members email with facebook.com is not totally awesome. I know that they should try to get their costumer’s idea about this new innovation. I know that many people are not aware of this situation.

Just like you said i dont think facebook should change any setting on my profile without atleast considering asking me first…except they are indirectly telling us we dont have the full right over our accounts.

    Nice contribution…thanks
