How to change resume capability from NO to YES in IDM

April 29, 2014 By Nwosu Desmond 17 Comments

Today I want to discuss with you how you can change the resume capability of a download from NO to YES in IDM. When the resume capability of a download is at NO, it means that the file cannot resume download in case of failure and when it is YES you can resume the downloads anytime even if there are disconnections.

Internet Download Manager IDM allows us to download files faster as it usually splits files into smaller parts and download them quickly, and then reassemble the whole files into one. But when the resume capability is at NO, it will only download such file from a single node which is often slow and takes time to complete the download process. But when the resume capability is at YES, the file gets downloaded from multiple nodes and faster.

So how does one change the resume capability of IDM from NO to YES? I am going to share a little secret I discovered the other day while I was downloading a file with a resume capability NO.

How to change resume capability from NO to YES in IDM

Imagine you were downloading a large file of say 960MB with a resume capability NO and suddenly the download fails after you have downloaded over 900MB, I have had cases where the download failed at 99%. Trying to resume the download will definitely prove futile since the resume capability is at NO. So you may have to start all over again except you have read this tutorial and apply the tricks I am about to share with you here so you can change the resume capability from NO to YES in IDM.

Must Read: How to resume downloads on IDM without restarting from beginning

When you start a download and notice that the resume capability is NO, simply stop the download and do the following to change the resume capability from NO to YES.

Right-click on the file you want to down on your IDM and select “Properties” from the list, look at the address to see if it ends in “?start=0”, this is the code that is preventing you from resuming your downloads.

Erase it and resume your download and you will see that the resume capability has been changed from NO to YES.

So let’s say your download link was ….Rick_Ross_Ft_Wale_Meek_Mill_-_Bag_Of_Money_-_DOPEHOOD_COM(fans_ge).mp3?start=0

How to change resume capability from NO to YES in Internet Download Manager

Delete the ?start=0 and be left with ….Rick_Ross_Ft_Wale_Meek_Mill_-_Bag_Of_Money_-_DOPEHOOD_COM(fans_ge).mp3

Then OK it and resume your download with a YES resume capability.

How to change resume capability from NO to YES in IDM

Resume capability is a variable given by a website you are downloading from. The download manager decodes the value and shows it on screen.

In cases when resume capability is set to “No” it means that the web server (apache, nginix, lighttpd) has a variable set to “No” when it comes to resume downloads.

But with this little trick you can change the resume capability from NO to YES in IDM and download your files faster. I hope you find this tutorial interesting. Remember to leave your comments or questions below.

    Hi Nwosu,

IDM certainly a great tool for quick download but when the download file is huge then you certainly want resume capability “Yes” as you don’t want to start the same download again if your internet connection lost or system restarted. Great trick to ensure complete download in one go.
