Cannot install Whatsapp on Blackberry Z10?

April 5, 2013 By Nwosu Desmond 46 Comments

If you have tried to install Whatsapp on Blackberry Z10 and received an “error installing application” then you are not the only one facing this problem. Installing Whatsapp on Blackberry Z10 has not been easy; so many people are complaining that they cannot install Whatsapp on their Blackberry Z10.

The Blackberry Z10 is the latest version of the Blackberry phone which is sold for around N100k (Hundred Thousand Naira Only) in Nigeria. Whatsapp mobile messenger provides smartphone users with a free mobile messaging platform and so many people are having fun with it.

Now let’s face the issue of the day, except you update your OS to 10.0.10.82 or higher you cannot be able to install Whatsapp on Blackberry Z10. But just this morning I tried to update my cousin’s Blackberry Z10 from 10.0.9.422 and I received a notice that I am already using the latest version and because of this I couldn’t install Whatsapp on the phone.

So if you are able to update your OS to 10.0.10.82 or higher you can simply visit the app world and install your Whatsapp else you may have to follow the process I am about to share here today. This process involves Android sideload.

Note: There are some limitations for this method; your Whatsapp may not be able to sync your native contacts automatically.

How to install Whatsapp on Blackberry Z10

Before you can install Whatsapp on Blackberry Z10 you will need to first download the following applications.

1. Download DDPB

2. Download JRE (If not installed on your PC else skip it)

3. Whatsapp.bar

Next is to install the DDPB installer you downloaded and follow the guides below to install Whatsapp on your Blackberry Z10.

Swipe down from top of the Home screen to go to Settings on your Blackberry Z10

Select Security and Privacy > Development Mode and turn on Use Development Mode and enter a 4 digit password. Note this password and the Development IP Address because you will need them below.

Then Launch the DDPB you just installed on your computer and connect your Blackberry Z10 via USB, enter the IP address and password you noted above.

Cannot install Whatsapp on Blackberry Z10

Then click the “Connect” button and if the password and IP address are correct, your Blackberry Z10 will authenticate and connect successfully.

Just at the right top corner you will see the “Add” button, click on it and locate where you saved the Whatsapp.bar you downloaded earlier, select it and click Install.

Then Whatsapp will be installed on your Blackberry Z10 and once this is done go back to settings and turn off the Use Development Mode.

Then run the Whatsapp on your device and complete the registration by appropriately filling the form as prompted.

Note: Always decline any update for this app on your Blackberry Z10.

Did this method work for you? Did you run into any problems? I will like to help you solve it, so use the comment form below to share your experience or ask your questions. Remember to subscribe to my RSS feed.

There is no need for android sideload whatsapp on blackberry Z10 anymore, whatsapp have released a native version for BlackBerry Z10 for almost a month now.

The reason some people have been unable to install it is because of the OS version 10.0.9. Something build which comes with BB Z10. You have to be on OS version 10.0.10.261 at least for whatsapp to work. I had to install the leaked autoloader of the OS version, because non of our Carriers has pushed OS updates yet. Right now I’m on OS version 10.0.10.648 which I also got the leaked autoloader online. So you can also do the same.

If you are scared of installing a leaked OS, you can alternatively install “openwhatsapp”. It’s works exactly like whatsapp, but it was developed by a brilliant individual when whatsapp wasn’t available on blackberry Z10. It works better than the Android sideload. It has to be sideloaded too. The only downside is that you must keep it opened for you to receive pushed msgs as they come. Go to openwhatsapp.org and get it.

Yea i know and yet some people can’t install it. I personally experienced it yesterday when the phone won’t update and can’t install whatsapp

I guess they both cant be like Whatsapp, our carriers here too are yet to push the latest OS versions and since we cant update to 10.0.10.XXX then we cant install Whatsapp….. Will consider the OpenWhatsapp

Finally! MTN has pushed the latest update which OS version 10.0.10.99. I don’t know about other networks. i.e Etisalat, Glo or Airtel. It’s a good development. I just wish they will continue to push updates, and do it as soon as they become available.

Have you upgraded your OS to a newer firmware? If so totally uninstall the Whatsapp on your Blackberry Z10 and re-install a new one, don’t try to upgrade on the new one.

  26. dero daniels says

    May 13, 2013 at 12:06 pm

Followed the steps up to the connect point. But pop up keeps saying “java is not recognised as an internal or external command”.

    Been unable to install.

  27. Nwosu Mavtrevor says

    May 14, 2013 at 7:49 am

The steps are easy to follow and if you followed them and still got an error, maybe the best option will be to update your OS and install the Whatsapp from Blackberry app world.

There are two ways you can install Whatsapp on your Blackberry Z10, you either sideload Whatsapp as discussed on this tutorial or you wait for your OS update to roll out, maybe you should call your mobile network provider for this.
